LogAG: An Algebraic Non-Monotonic Logic for Reasoning with Uncertainty
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a weighted algebraic non-monotonic logic we refer to as LogAG for reasoning with uncertain beliefs. In LogAG, the classical logical formulas could be associated with ordered grades representing measures of uncertainty. The revision of beliefs in LogAG, when contradictions arise, is done according to the grades of the contradictory propositions. Throughout the paper, we present the syntax and semantics of LogAG, extending the classical notion of logical consequence to handle graded propositions. A proof theory for LogAG is thoroughly described, discussing its soundness and completeness. Finally, we demonstrate the utility of LogAG in non-monotonic reasoning and in reasoning about information provided by a chain of sources of varying degrees of trust.

Algebraic Semantics for Graded Propositions
We present LogAG, an algebraic language for reasoning about graded propositions. LogAG is algebraic in that it is a language of only terms, some of which denote propositions. Both propositions and their grades are taken as individuals in the LogAG ontology. Thus, the language includes terms denoting graded propositions, grades of propositions, grading propositions, and graded grading propositio...
متن کاملA non-monotonic extension of universal moral grammar theory
We extend universal moral grammar theory (UMGT) with nonmonotonic logic. Our experiment shows that such revision is necessary as it allows to account for the effects of alleviations and aggravations in moral reasoning. Our new theory updates UMGT from classical to non-monotonic logic, which reflects the incompleteness of information and uncertainty in actual human reasoning. In addition, it pro...
متن کاملA Hybrid Approach to Inference in Probabilistic Non-Monotonic Logic Programming
We present a probabilistic inductive logic programming framework which integrates non-monotonic reasoning, probabilistic inference and parameter learning. In contrast to traditional approaches to probabilistic Answer Set Programming (ASP), our framework imposes only comparatively little restrictions on probabilistic logic programs in particular, it allows for ASP as well as FOL syntax, and for ...
متن کاملOn Non-monotonic Conditional Reasoning
This note is concerned with a formal analysis of the problem of non-monotonic reasoning in intelligent systems, especially when the uncertainty is taken into account in a quantitative way. A firm connection between logic and probability is established by introducing conditioning notions by means of formal structures that do not rely on quantitative measures. The associated conditional logic, co...
متن کاملInformation retrieval is a non-monotonic reasoning activity
Information retrieval involves uncertainty. In an information system, the user is not certain about the contents of the information system, and the system is not certain about the users needs. Information retrieval is about bridging this gap. In this paper, we show how information retrieval is a non-monotonic reasoning activity, and discuss the positive ramiications of this perspective. In part...
